Sunrise Hospital receives national honors for delivering exceptional women's care

Both hospitals announced today a number of national Healthgrades honors, topping the list with the 2021 Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award™ for three years in a row (2019-2021) and the 2021 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™ for four years in a row (2018-2021). These distinctions recognize the exceptional care Sunrise Hospital and Sunrise Children’s Hospital provide to mothers during and after childbirth and to women undergoing gynecologic procedures. To help consumers evaluate and compare hospital performance, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcomes data for hospitals across 16 states that provide all-payer state data for years 2017 through 2019. Healthgrades found that the variation in hospital performance makes a significant difference in terms of clinical outcomes: 

  • From 2017 to 2019, if all hospitals in the analysis performed similarly to those that received the Healthgrades 2021 Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award, 155,179 patients with complications could have potentially been avoided.* 
  • From 2017 through 2019, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Healthgrades Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award had, on average, a 37% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award*
  • From 2017 through 2019, if all hospitals included in the analysis performed similarly to those that received the Healthgrades Labor and Delivery Excellence Award, 138,318 patients with complications could potentially have been avoided*
  • From 2017 through 2019, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Healthgrades Labor and Delivery Excellence Award had, on average, a 41.7% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award*
