Emergency transport
Our Critical Care Transport (CCT) team specializes in transporting critically ill patients, ranging from premature infants to young adults, via ambulance, helicopter or airplane to receive a higher level of care. Our team primarily transports patients throughout Southern Nevada, North West Arizona, Eastern California and Southwest Utah, but our services extend throughout Nevada and even the Western US when needed. Some of our services include:
- Arranging transport. Once a child is accepted at Sunrise Children's Hospital, we work with their referring physicians and offer transport services. Then, our team picks up the patient and maintains contact with our receiving ER or ICU physician during transport. Our team discusses treatment that needs to be initiated or maintained. Also during transport, we provide companionship and services like movies to ease a child's stress.
- Just the right size (equipment and expertise). Our team has all of the critical care equipment needed in all the right sizes depending on the child's needs. Our team carries sophisticated critical care monitors, medication infusion pumps, and ventilators that can be used on children from smaller than 0.5 pounds to larger than 500 pounds.
Other advanced critical care services we offer
Kids with sudden illnesses or injuries may need support beyond children's urgent care. At Sunrise Children's, your child has access to a variety of resources.
Neonatal intensive care
Our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) has physicians (neonatologists) and skilled nurses with specialized training in caring for premature and critically ill newborns. Our neonatal team utilizes advanced equipment and technology made just for babies including medication, beds, monitoring and respiratory support.
Additionally, our NICU is the only one in Nevada that provides extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for newborns. ECMO imitates the natural function of the heart and lungs and allows babies to rest while healing. It is used for newborns suffering respiratory and/or cardiac failure as a result of birth defects, trauma or severe infection.
Our Ronald McDonald Family Room™ at Sunrise Children’s Hospital provides families with a child in the NICU a place to relax and regroup just a few steps away from their child's bedside. Also, if you arrive from out-of-town, we have arrangements with nearby hotels for discounted rates for our guest families. We offer resources for families through our online guest services programs.
Pediatric intensive care
When an older child or teen needs advanced care, we admit them to our pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). Pediatric specialists with additional training oversee your child's admission and involve doctors from multiple disciplines in around-the-clock care.
One of our services includes Nevada's only pediatric heart program. Our program treats congenital heart defects to open-heart surgery. We offer a variety of treatments tailored to a child's needs. Besides our heart care, we offer a range of services to treat the wide variety of illnesses kids suffer including ECMO. Our PICU experts utilize the latest medical advances in treatment and technology.
Sunrise Children's uses a family-oriented approach. Our health strategy improves survival, speeds recovery and minimizes pain and suffering a child experiences from illness and injury.

As a Level II Trauma Center, Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center and Sunrise Children's Hospital provide care for the emergent needs of some of the sickest patients in Las Vegas and the surrounding region. Our patients range from 1 to 17 years old.
